SPA v HEAVENLY CRICKET '05
16 August 2005; batting first, SPA scores 135; in reply the Heavenly bunch score 27 - A positive spanking one could say.
Joel ‘The Cat’ and Harry ‘Lightening’ opened the batting for SPA to get us off to a flyer. 'The Cats' quick fire 27 set the platform. 'Lightening' played a great supporting role. 'The Cats' dismissal brought Martin to the centre. A similar batting style to The Cat – Smack Everything Saw; more runs pile on, with Lightening’s scoring rate increasing too.
Next man in was SPA’s esteemed captain Jonny ‘Sledger’ P, playing a stabilising innings following the loss of a few quick wickets. Diamond's exit saw Dom ‘Doominator’s’ arrival to the wicket. Wanting to test ‘The Sledgers' ticker, ‘Doominator’ made a few quick singles which saw ‘Sledger’ break into a sweat. Things were looking positive for SPA before a couple of very dubious LBW calls to dismiss both ‘Sledger’ and ‘Doominator’.
Jon ‘Ledgend’ Watts on debut batted with aplomb to go on to be SPA’s second top scorer. Was dismissed by ‘being caught on the boundary going for a 6’. Danny ‘Jim’ Moore did bother the scorers and rang into the office to get them to prepare his P45.
Tommy ‘Superior’, Andy ‘Halst’ and Greg ‘G Hawk’ played a perfect tail enders innings to bat out the overs and push the score to 135 for 9. Sensible calling and good shots were critical in this stand in the fading light.
Having posted a score that SPA thought was competitive we went on to teach the Heavenly mob a lessen. Highlights of our bowling innings included: Diamonds, Superior and Hawks great catching;
Hawks outfielding and throwing;
Halsts, Sledgers, Diamonds and Doominators bowling;
The Cats keeping.
Good play and team vibe and enthusiasm combined to crush the oppositions sprit resulting in their dismissal for a paltry 27 runs.
A wicked afternoon’s cricket. Fun was had by all.
